As a Driver

We hold various different types of events throughout the year depending on your skill level. We are a volunteer organisation, so events are held on weekends and further event details are released 3-4 weeks before each event. See our Annual Events Calendar below for a full list of dates of events.

To drive, you must be at least 14 years old, however anyone younger than 18 must contact us for approval before entering and have a parent/guardian with them.

For newbie drivers, we have a few example options below:

DRIFT CAR RENTAL

For those who want to try out Drifting but don’t have the car to do so, Drifting SA can supply you with your own Drift car and a personal teacher on the skidpan as part of our Drift Car Rental option at Drift School / Skidpan Days. Please note limited sessions are available, so keep an eye on our Events page for spots available!

DRIFT SCHOOL
Our “bring your own car” Drift School is usually run on a skidpan (except for Advanced Drift Schools which may be run on a larger track) where we offer individual tuition with courses ranging from donuts, figure of 8’s for beginners to a more advanced course where drivers can practice entries and tandems. Please note that students for the BYO Car Drift School are required to bring their own car to use and learn in.

What kind of car do I need? A rear wheel drive car with a diff that doesn't open wheel and a helmet is pretty much all you need to get started! Additional safety modifications/equipment required for competition drivers, please see below.

Just want to drive and have fun with friends?! We have a few freestyle events too:

WINTERFEST/LOCKTOBERFEST

A jam packed freestyle event where you will get to enjoy multiple layouts across The Bend's drift track. Different groups for different experience levels and usually skidpan access too!

Drifting SA Driver members receive discounted entries to all events (saving $40 per day per event). Join now!

Competitions & Regulations

If you are considering entering a competition, please review the standing regulations so you are aware of what to expect regarding competition format, car setup and driver etiquette.

Supplementary regulations sent out prior to each event.

L2 is the entry-level category for drivers who are new to competition. It provides an opportunity for participants to gain experience and build confidence in a competitive environment. Once drivers have demonstrated their skills and feel more comfortable with the pressures of competition, they are encouraged to move up to L1, which offers a more challenging level of competition for seasoned competitors.

For dates of future events, visit our Events page.

At the start of each year we offer a special Driver membership upgrade called a 'Season Pass'.

A Season Pass costs the equivalent of a round’s entry before the season starts and seeks your commitment to enter all Rounds across the year. As a reward, your entries for each round are heavily discounted, with the last round being free (essentially getting the initial Season Pass fee back while also having benefited from the heavily discounted round entry). You also get $99 Practice Entry on the Saturday, plus other goodies throughout the season! The Season Pass stays valid while you keep entering each round, it cancels if you miss a round (paying for a round but not driving is an option to maintain the season pass).

You can upgrade from standard Driver membership to Season Pass here (only before Round 1) each year.

ATTENTION INTERSTATE DRIVERS: If you are from Interstate and planning to drive our Competition Events, we offer discounted Pracs and other benefits. please email president @ driftingsa.com.au to find out more.
