SA State Series Drift Championship

The SA State Series Drift Championship, with multiple rounds at the world-class The Bend Motorsport Park and one round at Mallala Motorsport Park, is the ultimate test of skill, speed, and determination for drift drivers in South Australia. The Bend boasts a state-of-the-art, purpose-built drift track with seemingly endless, high speed and technical layout possibilities that challenge drivers to push their limits, while Mallala offers a thrilling and historic backdrop for high-stakes competition.

Our advanced competitors compete in the L1 Category, while our new competitors have the opportunity to build skills and confidence in the L2 category.

The championship is unique due to its innovative qualifying and judging system and fast-paced battle format, all designed to test drivers' skill, precision, and adaptability. Rather than solo qualifying runs, as seen in many other Drift Competitions, the competition begins with two Battle Rounds that serve as qualifiers. Lead drivers are expected to execute precise, smooth runs, while chase drivers must match the lead’s line, angle, and proximity. The scoring system emphasis es both technical skill and aggressive commitment, rewarding drivers who take risks and demonstrate flair on the track. Each battle is judged independently, with a maximum of 10 points available for each driver per run - both in the lead and chase positions. These rounds are crucial in determining which drivers will advance to the next stage, with the top 16 from these rounds will move on to Battle Round 3.

In this format, drivers' lowest scores are dropped, and their highest score is doubled to create a formulated score. This system ensures that the most consistent and skilled drivers advance, even if they have a less-than-perfect run. If there are any ties after these rounds, the scores from all runs are combined without adjustments, and if a tie persists, further criteria are applied, including a sudden-death battle if necessary. After Battle Round 3, the top 8 drivers advance to the Elimination Battles

The L1 finals are decided in a 'Best of Three' format. The first driver to win two clear battles is crowned the winner. If no clear winner emerges after four battles, the competition shifts into sudden death until a winner is determined. Meanwhile, the L2 finals follow a more traditional format, using the top 8 finishing positions.

The SA State Series Championship is more than just a competition – it’s a proud, welcoming and inclusive community. With a high level of skill from the drivers, the championship attracts some of the best in the sport. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a newcomer, the culture is all about helping each other grow, celebrating progress, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on the track.
